Before mounting anything, walk the site and map obstructions. The dish needs a wide, unobstructed view of the sky, so look for cranes, silos, ductwork and nearby structures that could periodically block the signal. Use the Starlink app's obstruction tool at the exact proposed location to measure the real sky view, and remember that the dish's field of view is wider than a typical sat dish — clearance matters in every direction, not just where you assume the satellites are.
On a flat roof, a weighted non-penetrating mount is often the fastest option because it avoids putting holes in the membrane. For areas with high wind, or where the roofline itself blocks the sky, a tower or mast mount lifts the dish above the clutter — and here rigidity is everything.

Industrial cable runs are long and exposed, so protect them properly. Use conduit for any section where the cable could be walked on, driven over or damaged by machinery, and keep the bend radius generous at every turn. Seal every wall penetration with a weatherproof gland and leave a drip loop outside so water cannot follow the cable indoors. In corrosive or high-temperature environments, choose a cable jacket rated for those conditions rather than standard indoor cable.
Industrial sites rarely have a spare domestic socket near the roof, so plan power deliberately. A clean 12V or PoE feed can remove the need for a mains outlet at the dish location, while a dedicated circuit with surge protection guards against the voltage spikes common around heavy machinery. On the network side, connect the Starlink router to the site LAN through an Enterprise-class setup or a managed switch so the connection can be monitored, fail over and prioritised like any other critical service.
Once installed, schedule regular inspections rather than waiting for an outage. Check the mount fasteners for loosening from vibration, confirm the cable glands are still sealed, and clear any debris or snow that could settle on the dish. Log the dish's obstruction and uptime data from the app so you can spot a slowly degrading sky view before it becomes a dropped connection. For sites where downtime is simply not an option, consider a second dish or a bonded failover link.
